John Howard manuscript, [18--?].

John Howard was chief guide and scout for the Military District of the Yellowstone, in Montana Territory. This manuscript is an account, based on his conversations with soldiers who had been on the scene, of the Battle of the Little Big Horn (1876) and its aftermath. It was written for relatives of Captain Myles Keogh. Collection also contains Edgar I. Stewart's comments on the manuscript. This seven-page, handwritten manuscript, "fully endorsed by Major General Nelson A. Miles," describes the Battle of the Little Big Horn (June 25-26, 1876). Also included is "Comments on the John Howard Manuscript," by Edgar Stewart (undated). (Small Collection 32).
